Keshawn M. Long, MS, ALEM

Keshawn Long is a native of Anniston, Alabama, and serves as the Deputy Director of the Etowah County Emergency Management Agency, where he brings extensive emergency management experience, operational expertise, and a proven commitment to public safety.

Before assuming his current leadership role, Mr. Long served as an Emergency Management Officers II with the Calhoun County EMA. He also served more than 18 years in the Alabama Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. His military career began with the 225th Combat Communications Squadron in Gadsden before transferring to the 117th Air Refueling Wing in Birmingham, AL., where he served as the Noncommissioned Officer in Charge of Alabama’s Fatality Search and Recovery Team (FSRT). In that role, he led specialized personnel in preparing for and responding to complex recovery operations across the state.

Following his military retirement, Mr. Long joined the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston as a hazardous materials instructor. During his tenure, he completed more than 114 live-agent training entries inside the COBRA Training Facility, demonstrating exceptional technical expertise while preparing emergency responders from across the nation for hazardous materials incidents. In recognition of his outstanding instructional ability and dedication, he was named the Center for Domestic Preparedness Instructor of the Year in 2022.

Mr. Long earned a Master of Science in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University in 2020 and holds the Advanced Level Emergency Manager (ALEM) certification through the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers and a graduate of FEMA’s National Disaster Emergency Management University’s Basic Academy. Throughout his distinguished military and civilian careers, he has received numerous awards and commendations recognizing his leadership, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to emergency preparedness, response, and public service.
As Deputy Director of the Etowah County Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Long is committed to strengthening community resilience through planning, training, interagency coordination, and proactive emergency preparedness, ensuring the citizens of Etowah County are ready to respond to and recover from disasters of all types
